Family Search: When Private Alexander F. Roote was born on 1 September 1895, in Saugeen, Bruce, Ontario, Canada, his father, Jesse Issac Root, was 30 and his mother, Margaret Wabazee, was 35. He married Isabella John on 30 September 1919, in Saugeen 29, Bruce, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Saugeen 29, Bruce, Ontario, Canada in 1911 and Bruce Township, Bruce, Ontario, Canada in 1931. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 20, his occupation is listed as farmer. He died on 23 November 1967, in Chippawa Hill, Saugeen 29, Bruce, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 72, and was buried in French Bay Cemetery, Saugeen Shores, Bruce, Ontario, Canada.

This man enlisted with the 160th Battalion at Southampton, Ontario on 31 December 1915.

He was a farmer following the Methodist faith and lived in Chippawa Hill, Ontario at the time of his enlistment.

He arrived in England on28 October 1916 aboard the SS Metagama. He was transferred to the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion 23 February 1918. On 18 March 1918 he was awarded a Good Conduct Badge.

On 28 March 1918 he was transferred to the 18th Battalion and joined that unit “in the field” on 14 August 1918.

He served the rest of the war with the 18th and was discharged due to demobilization on 24 May 1919 at London, Ontario.

After the war he got involved in local Tribal and provincial politics.
