Family Search: When Private Joseph Root was born on 24 July 1887, in Saugeen, Bruce, Ontario, Canada, his father, Jesse Issac Root, was 22 and his mother, Margaret Wabazee, was 27. He married Eleanor Shields on 10 February 1919, in Bruce, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 2 daughters. He lived in Bruce, Ontario, Canada for about 10 years. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 28, his occupation is listed as farmer. He died on 14 July 1925, in London, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 37, and was buried in French Bay Cemetery, Saugeen Shores, Bruce, Ontario, Canada

This man enlisted with the 160th Battalion at Southampton, Ontario on 31 December 1915.
He was a farmer following the Methodist faith and lived in Chippawa Hill, Ontario at the time of his enlistment.
He arrived in England on 28 October 1916 aboard the SS Metagama. On 31 December 1917 he was awarded a Good Conduct Badge. He was transferred to the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion 24 February 1918.
On 7 April 1918 he was transferred to the 18th Battalion and joined that unit “in the field” on 14 August 1918.
He was wounded in action on 27 August 1918 and invalided to England for treatment of a GSW to his face and right arm, initially being treated at No. 2 Australian General Hospital before being sent to England.
He was returned to duty on 21 October 1918 and was subsequently sent to Canada for discharge.
He was discharged due to demobilization on 25 January 1919 at London, Ontario.
