Family Search: When Private James Edwin Savage was born on 13 January 1895, in Howard, Kent, Ontario, Canada, his father, Joseph W. Savage, was 36 and his mother, Clara Jane Breaton, was 30. He married Flossie Pearl Carder on 29 July 1922, in Walkerville, Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 3 daughters. He lived in Northwood, Kent, Ontario, Canada in 1921 and East Windsor, Sandwich, Essex, Ontario, Canada in 1931. He registered for military service in 1916. In 1919, his occupation is listed as machinist, ford motor company in Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada. He died on 17 April 1936, in Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 41, and was buried in Botany Cemetery, Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada

This man enlisted with the 70th Battalion at London, Ontario on 21 April 1916.

He was a labourer following the Anglican faith and lived in Northwood, Ontario at the time of his enlistment.

He arrived in England on 5 May 1916 aboard the SS Lapland. He was transferred to the 39th Canadian Battalion on 10 July 1916.

On 10 August 1916, he was transferred to the 18th Battalion and joined that unit “in the field” on 17 September 1916.

He was wounded with a GSW to his right shoulder,r and the wound was considered severe. He was shipped to England for medical treatment and release for duty with the 4th Reserve Battalion on 7 March 1917.

He returned to combat duty with the 18th Battalion on 6 June 1917 and was posted “missing” on 11 November 1917 and was buried by an enemy shell on that date. He received treatment in the Continent and was temporarily transferred to the 8th Battalion on 14 August 1918, but was returned to the 18th Battalion on 13 October 1918 and rejoined this unit 3 days later.

He served the rest of the war with the 18th and was discharged due to demobilization on 24 May 1919 at London, Ontario.

James E. Savage Funeral Monday

Arrangements are completed today for the funeral of James E. Savage, who died suddenly yesterday at his home, 99 Charlotte Street, Ward One.

Following a service at 9 o’clock tomorrow night, the body will rest at the Morris Funeral Home, Wyandotte Street, east, until noon Monday. The cortege will then motor to Botany Cemetery, Kent County, where burial will be made.

Rev. W. B. Barnes, of St. Paul’s United Church, will officiate.

Heart Attack Proves Fatal
James E. Savage Passes Suddenly; Native Of Thamesville

Stricken with a heart attack, James E. Savage, 41 years of age, died suddenly this morning at his home, 99 Charlotte Street, Ward One.

A native of Thamesville, Mr. Savage had resided in Windsor the past 18 years. He was employed as a machinist at the Ford Motor Company and was a member of St. Paul’s United Church.

Mr. Savage enlisted with the 33rd Battalion during the Great War and was later transferred to the 18th and served with that unit overseas.

Surviving are his widow, Flossie, and three daughters, Vera, Irene, and Eileen, at home.

Funeral arrangements were being completed today. The body is resting at the Morris Funeral Home, Wyandotte Street east.
