Tewkesbury rites set on Saturday

CHATHAM — A well known Chatham businessman, Alfred Oliver Tewkesbury, 69, of 39 Wilson Ave., died in St. Joseph’s Hospital here, Thursday.

Son of the late John Tewkesbury and Mary LeCoq, Mr. Tewkesbury resided in Chatham all his life and had been a building contractor for many years. For the past 22 years, he was owner of Chatham Sand and Gravel Company.

Mr. Tewkesbury was a member of Victoria Ave. United Church, Parthenon Lodge No. 267 A.F. and A.M. and was a member and past president of the Chatham Figure Skating Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Paul; daughters, Mrs. Howard (June) Cady, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Butterman and Mrs. Robert (Jacqueline) Baker, all of Chatham, Mrs. Kenneth (Betty) Gross of Woodstock, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Swainston of Gananoque and Mrs. Earl (Helen) Morris in Arizona; a son, Robert of Chatham, and 12 grandchildren. A son, William and daughter, Mrs. Gary (Sandra) Ritchie, an International Figure Skating Star predeceased.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from Stephen Funeral Home, Chatham with Rev. James Somerville of Victoria Ave. United Church officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Chatham.
