Family Search: Corporal Andrew Archibald Webber was born on 12 September 1897, in Eschdorf, Heiderscheid, Wiltz, Luxembourg as the son of John Henry Webber and Margaret. He married Daisy Pearl Stanley in 1919. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. He immigrated to Canada in 190 and lived in Clover Bar No. 517, Alberta, Canada in 1918. He registered for military service in 1914. He died on 17 July 1924, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, at the age of 26, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, La Rivière, Pembina, Manitoba
Note that this soldier’s name was first posted as “Weber” and, upon a review of his service file, was corrected to “Webber”.
3205605 [conscripted regimental number] Second attestation to 1st Depot Battalion, Alberta Regiment on January 7, 1918 at Calgary, Alberta. Does not appear to be a conscription. Prior military shown as 18th Battalion with discharge because of “severe F.P.”? Birthdate is now September 12, 1897 as he would have been underage in the 1914 enlistment. Birthplace is now Clover Bar, Alberta instead of Luxemburg (sic) – must be wrong. Attestation says “Recruit First Depot Battalion – Examination for reclassification”
Note that there have been more than one case of 18th Battalion members who fought and served in Europe and then repatriated to Canada during the war only to have them re-engaged with the Canadian Military establishment through the Conscription Act of 1917.
Got a tattoo from Private George Dickson, reg. no. 53410 per this post.
