He was shoemaker following the Anglican faith living at 111 Fern Avenue, Toronto, Ontario.

He arrived in England on 18 August 1916 aboard the SS Camronia.

On 10 October 1916 he was transferred to the 18th Battalion and began his trip “overseas” to the Continent.

He was assigned to the 2nd Canadian Entrenching Battalion on 11 October 1916 and was then attached to the 5th Field Company Canadian Engineers effective 11 November 1916 and returned to the entrenching battalion on 26 November 1916 and finally arrived with the 18th Battalion “in the field” on 5 March 1917.

He was wounded on 14 April 1817 with a GWS to the left art and required treatment in England arriving on 16 April 1917.

After treatment in England he was sent overseas to rejoin the 18th Battalion 31 August 1918.

He served the rest of the war with the 18th Battalion and he was discharged due to demobilization on 24 May 1919 at London, Ontario.
