Tracking the Legacy of 4,000 Soldiers: 18th Battalion Progress

Part of the focus of the blog is creating a page, a Soldier’s Page, for each man that served with the 18th Battalion. Approximately 4,000 men served at some time with the Battalion. Eventually, it is hoped that a complete accounting for all the men who served will be completed.

This is an update of the progress of the work that will be ongoing.

First Entry: 2 June 2014, Lieutenant Frederick Charles Peppiatt
Last Current Entry: 30 July 2025, Private Herbert John Norman

11 years in the making! Approximately 3,600 men have been found through various means. Nominal Rolls. Contributions from 18th Battalion Facebook Group members. Casualty returns. Service records mentions (promotions). Marriage information from members. Grave and obituary mentions by members. Newspaper mentions by members. And more!

The database is not complete. That will be the next project. For now, the database and blog entries will be updated as required and presented.

Database maintenance will be ongoing but a new focus will be capturing my efforts for the next month or two.

Thank you so much to all the great members we have that made this possible. A really crowd based solution to getting the information recorded so we can honour all those who served and sacrificed with the 18th Battalion.
