  1. So interesting reading the saga of a family emigrating in stages spread over decades.
    The story of Alexander McCalmont’s immigration, settlement, and marriage is particularly intriguing; it is quite surprising to learn that at age 20, he married a woman 15 years older.
    It was not unusual for a young woman to marry a much older widower and help raise his children, but I think it’s quite unusual for a young man to marry a woman so much older in those times.
