Sue Light: Gone Before Her Time

I did not know Sue Light. In fact, if it were not for Sue Light I would not know about Sue Light.

Sue Light, from her Facebook page.

On August 3, 2014 I wrote a blog post entitled Missing, believed drowned… about two 18th Battalion soldiers who were lost at sea due to the sinking by a German nautical mine. Part of the post included information about how nursing sisters served aboard ship as it sank, some perishing in their efforts to save the wounded.

I had just revived this blog and very shortly after this post I received an informative and encouraging email from Sue Light. Sue ran the web site “Scarlett Finders” with the objective of recording and sharing information over a wide range of subjects not normally or formally recorded and related regarding the services of nurses during the Great War. Her site is comprehensive and a valuable resource.

I was shocked to learn that she has passed away this past week through a Facebook post. I honestly do not have any idea why this post came up on my feed but I remembered my interaction with Sue and the obvious toil, passion, and effort she took to create and document the information on her site.

This is to you Sue. You touched on me and your kind words and interest in my blog helped be to become more active in this work. Sue’s family has my condolences and I thank you again for your encouragement.
